ABOUT JOSH HEBERT

Josh Hebert is not a typical candidate. This won’t be a typical candidate bio.

He was born in Reno—his father’s family is from there—but he didn’t get to stay. His father died when he was just a few months old, so his widowed single mom had to build a better life for them, which she did. She joined the Army in the early 70s, and then used the GI Bill to put herself through U.C. Berkeley Law School. She was a pioneer, and that pioneering spirit carried Josh away from Nevada. He just moved back in May.

Yes, he knows that makes running for Congress here a crazy thing to do. He feels compelled to do it anyway. He hopes to earn your trust.

Josh is 55 years old. He got a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Austin at age 45. He currently trains AI for an hourly wage, a job that inspired him to study AI more deeply and gain understanding that we need in Congress right now. He landed in that business after his position as Macmillan Learning’s physics content developer was eliminated in a big corporate reorg. Before all that, he worked as a grip and set electrician in the Bay Area film industry. Josh is adaptable, and has personal experience with big life changes.

Through it all, he has been a very close observer of politics, society, and America.

He’s worked on political campaigns, been a precinct chair, and had some professional, political, and civic successes. He’s driven to step up right now because America is crashing out, and we need new people with fresh ideas to just go for it. He knows he doesn’t have the typical qualifications, but electing the usual suspects is how we got here. It’s time to shake things up.

Josh cares deeply about fairness and justice for all, and has a history of standing up for people. He’s a patriot, a fierce defender of our democratic republic, and a true believer in representative government. His motivation is getting the system working like the Founders hoped it would. We can’t do that without finding common ground and treating each other with respect, but that’s impossible with “leaders” who get off on dividing, demeaning, and dehumanizing us. Josh prefers to be nice, but knows bullies must be confronted. He won’t shirk from that fight.

In these crazy times, knowing how to manage crazy makes him uniquely qualified.

Josh is bipolar, but went undiagnosed until he was about 38. It’s had a huge impact on his life. Learning to manage it—often the hard way—took most of his life. Success required self-awareness, self-forgiveness, and discipline. He’s learned to surf his mood and not be swamped by it. Surviving all that has made him patient, understanding, and resilient.

Josh is the father of two and a husband of 27 years. He’s very protective of his family and is determined to shield them from his campaign. He kindly requests that everyone leave them alone. He’s determined to make an example of anyone who doesn’t.

Josh is back in Nevada to stay. No matter how this campaign turns out, he will continue to work to improve the lives of Nevadans for as long as he is able.
